How long does it take to diagnose a fault?

Today’s computers are very complicated devices and they are getting more so as the years proceed. Fault diagnosis can be very quick as the fault is very obvious, such as the router is not working, with no lights on and not connecting to the Internet. Alternatively a problem could be that the computer Hard Disk Drive is not spinning up. Other faults can take some time as the cause can be hidden behind strange error messages and random intermittent problems. Generally speaking, we can diagnose and fix a problem within the hour but if more testing needs to be undertaken this time may be extended.

Do you work with Windows computers and Apple Macs?

We here at Homecomm work on both of these computers as well as Linux based ones. Generally speaking, the Windows based are more common due to approximately 80+% of the market whilst Apple computers make up around 15% and Linux being the rest. We have many years of experience on all three variations and as the underlying hardware is more or less the same the principals of maintaining, upgrading and fixing them also remain the same.

Will I lose my personal data while my computer is being repaired?

We certainly suggest that everyone backs up their data on a regular basis and have, if possible, multiple backups of that data on clearly marked external devices as well as utilising cloud based backup systems. It is said that there are two types of people in the World today, those who have lost data and those that will experience this unfortunate occurrence any time soon. We here at Homecomm will always ask if a data backup is required and often backup the data before any work is done as a safeguard. Data backup can take several hours as this depends on the amount of data to backup as well as the speed of the device which is being used for said backup.

What is the product guarantee?

Homecomm guarantees their work and any labour is guaranteed for one year. Hardware guarantees vary depending on the supplier and product. I will provide you with my best advice regarding appropriate hardware for your needs, and can assist with hardware installation and optimising its performance, however if you experience any hardware faults that arise within the warranty period you would need to deal direct with the supplier.  I can assist with diagnosing any faults and liaising with suppliers as needed.

Can you come to me?

Yes, we generally come on-site for a customer as there are many different aspects to a computer problem. On-site is particularly relevant if the Internet is not working, the printer is not printing, the Wi-Fi is not connecting and the computer network is not co-operating. Having to take a large computer PC Desktop out of their home or office environment is not always possible for many people due to the size, weight and the myriad of cables that go with them. On average we attend home or office appointments 95% of the time as we consider our service a personal all-inclusive one and therefore we can attend to the various items mentioned above in-situ as a holistic approach which generally helps fix the problems quickly all together.
